Promise Auction 2006

Over the forthcoming year I will be building an overview of all Hunt activities, starting in May when the new season began through to next April when it ends. If you have any photos, or a little report you'd like to contribute to help, please feel free to email them to me!

May 2008:
The AGM at Tetford was well supported and it was announced that Mr Nick Ashcroft would continue in his role as Master Huntsman for the forthcoming season. All accounts were accepted subject to audit. Mr Steve Kidd offered to step down from the role as Supporter's Club Chairman and Mr Richard Mowbray offered to step in, and was voted to replace him with a majority vote.

June 2008:
Plans for extensive repairs at kennels are well underway and groups have met to prepare the new stable doors. New front doors on hound lodges have been replaced thanks to money donated by Mr Richard Mowbray, following his sponsored head shave.

Head Shave (By Rachael Mowbray)

Towards the end of last year many of you will recall being “accosted” by our whip, Richard. He was on a mission to raise funds for the hunt so that the hound lodge gates could be replaced. Although Richard is not blessed with a flowing head of hair he decided to go for a sponsored head shave and have what he possessed at the time shaved off! It should be noted that Richard grew his hair especially for the occasion!

On December 4th 2007 at Belchford village hall Richard’s hair was expertly removed by our Master and Huntsman Nick, who I believe took great delight in shaving a cross into Richard’s hair before removing every last trace of it (see picture). It was a good laugh with food and refreshments raising additional funds too.

For those of you who didn’t get to see the results hopefully the pictures will suffice. All the sponsorship has now been collected and a total of £677 was raised. Mick Toyne was commissioned to make new gates and they have now been fitted.

Great thanks go to Richard, Lynne, Nick and Clare for organising the event. Thanks also to Mick Toyne and his team for brilliant new gates, which you will see at the open day hopefully.

Thank you to all the people who generously sponsored Richard and helped to raise the fantastic amount of £677 enabling the gates to be purchased.

July 2008

July got underway with new stable doors adding to the refurbishment of the Hunt Kennels. The have given an instant mini facelift! Practices also started for this year's new entry who Nick had entered for various summer shows. The first show being Great Yorkshire, where hounds behaved brilliantly - many on their first outing. All good preparation for Peterborugh where hounds also behaved fantastically. One of our hounds, Drummer, was even highly noted upon by Capt. Ian Farquhar, Jnt Master at the Duke of Beaufort Hunt. This made Nick's day and was worth far more than any rosette!
The second bike ride bought out a few more faces, and was also a great opportunity to welcome our new Kennelman/2nd Whip, Mr James Thackeray. A great day was had by all who attended who noted on the vast improvements being made at kennels.

August 2008:

August kicked off with the Revesby Country Fair. Weather held off for a lovely day with honds parading in the main ring during the afternoon. The hunt also held a marquee beside the main ring and had we 4 new puppies on show as well as a wealth of photos, merchandise and information for members and the public - public support was overwhelming! Hospitality was served for hunt members, landowners and invited guests - many thanks to Shirley and Sue (and everyone who baked!). The announcement was made that when repairs are complete at kennels, that the East Lincs Bassett Hounds will be coming to kennel with us. A move that has been widely welcomed.

September 2008:

Repairs at kennels continued and most of the work was finished just prior to our puppy show. We enjoyed visitors from the Avon Vale Hunt who came for a couple of days, having just been to the West Norfolk en route. Many people commented on how smart kennels are looking now and enormous thanks to the people who helped move it along. We started our Autumn Trail Hunting with a few quiet mornings to settle the young entry, who seem to picking up what it's all about quickly. Puppy show was much better than last year for the simple fact that it was dry! The many spectators enjoyed watching our hounds be judged by Major Jonathon Seed MFH and Mr Mike Smith MFH (both visiting from the AVH), which was followed by the usual tea. Show results were:

Doghounds:                                          Bitches:
1st - Drummer (The Hall Family)           1st - Verity (Mrs J Johnson)
2nd - Beaver (Miss C Hales)                 2nd - Vivid (Mrs J Johnson)
3rd - Vandle (Kennel staff)                     3rd - Drizzle (The Hall Family)

Champion Puppy - Drummer
Best Hunting Puppy 07/08 season - Bouncer (Miss N Scott)

5 couple of doghouds, and 5 1/2 couple of bitches were presented. A big thanks to the Puppy Walkers, who are an invaluable asset to hounds education.
